South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen has extended his lead to eight shots in the final round of golf’s British Open at St. Andrews in Scotland.

Oosthuizen is 2-under par today on the Old Course and 17- under for the tournament. His lead went to eight shots from four on the 12th hole after he birdied as playing partner Paul Casey made triple-bogey.

Casey and Lee Westwood, both from England, are currently tied for second at 9-under. Casey is 2-over par for his round after 12 holes and Westwood is 2-under through 14 holes.

July 16 (Bloomberg) — Rick Horrow, founder of Horrow Sports Ventures Inc. and a Bloomberg Television contributing editor, reports on the second round of the British Open at St. Andrews in Scotland. Louis Oosthuizen leads by five strokes over Mark Calcavecchia in the second round, which was suspended by darkness. Tiger Woods is eight shots behind. Horrow talks with Matt Miller and Carol Massar on Bloomberg Television’s “Street Smart.”

Tiger Woods-frustrated

Posted By admin on July 18, 2010 36 Comments

Tiger Woods was frustrated after a one-over round of 73 left him 12 shots off the lead at the Open at St Andrews.

The world number one struggled to convert several chances on the greens with his new putter, failing to produce the famous Woods 'charge'.

"I played well but made nothing. I just couldn't get anything started so failed to get momentum," he told BBC Sport.

Fellow American Phil Mickelson also saw his challenge fade, as did veteran Mark Calcavecchia after a five-over 77.

Woods added: "I putted well on the first day, yesterday wasn't as good and today I certainly didn't putt well at all.

Woods fails to "gather momentum"

"The wind was laying down just a little bit when we were coming in as well. All of a sudden the golf course felt playable."

The world number one, seeking to become the first man in 150 years to win the Open three times at St Andrews, finished the day at three under for the tournament.

And with Louis Oosthuizen (15 under) still showing no signs of tripping up at the top of the leaderboard, a first win since November, when events in his personal life turned his life upside down, now looks extremely unlikely.

Woods struggled for rhythm in his third round, making three birdies and four bogeys, including one dropped shot at the par-five fifth, when his second shot found a gorse bush.

Another shot slipped away at the Road Hole 17th when his second ran through the green. Despite a fabulous recovery shot, he missed the putt and had to settle for a five.

Tiger Woods switched back to his old putter for today’s final round of the British Open at St. Andrews.

Woods changed to a Nike Method putter prior to the tournament in an effort to conquer the slower greens of the Old Course. He took 99 putts in his first three rounds, including 35 yesterday, to fall 12 shots behind leader Louis Oosthuizen.

Woods today returned to the Titleist Scotty Cameron putter which helped him win 13 of his 14 majors championships since 1999.
